.BLAKE WORRELL I was born in L.A. and raised around the world. San Francisco, Barcelona, New York, France and Mexico to name but a few places. My father was a painter and my mother a fashion designer, and through their wide cultural influences they showed me the diverse facets of the 80s. A common childhood theme was their ability to split up and make up, until the age of 12 when I settled back in L.A. and my father disappeared for good. School was a constant reminder of my travels abroad. I was an outcast, treated like a foreigner and an easy target for small-minded people. At that point I was fluent in 3 languages, learning my fourth and composing/performing on the piano. As I got into playing drums at the age of 13, things slowly started to change and distract me: 4 moves and 7 schools later, my grades hit bottom and life seemed pointless. By the time I woke up I had nowhere to go. I had no choice but to retreat to Mexico where my mother and grandmother helped me to get cleaned up from my drug addiction. I was not able to leave the house due to the trouble I was in with rival gang members. The turmoil that I experienced finally found an outlet when my uncles gave me a 16-track midi keyboard. Staying indoors quickly became the source of a painless inner world where I could freely express myself.
